ADDING SOCIAL VALUE
Working with transport operators, public sector organisations and communities, together our programmes raise awareness of the environmental benefits of bus travel, while profiling job opportunities and entry routes into careers in the sector. By incorporating youth consultation into our programmes, we help to generate ideas for service improvement and promotion while encouraging engagement and changing perceptions of the sector.
Many young people are unaware of the range of job roles in the sector, how to access entry level roles, the salaries paid and the potential for career progression. Together with our partners, we seek to enable young people to develop key employability skills while helping employers to forge relationships with their customers of today and tomorrow, all while giving their teams the opportunity to develop their own skills.
WHY GET INVOLVED?
The transport sector is uniquely positioned to engage with young people as customers now and in the future, as well as the future workforce. By predominantly engaging with schools with higher than average pupil premium, or students on free school meals, our work helps to create a more equal and inclusive society by adding social value in the communities that transport operators serve.
By equipping young people with more knowledge about the varied careers in the transport sector, we empower them to make informed choices about their future careers.
Our activities challenge misconceptions among young people and showcase the different careers available in the transport sector.
Our programmes include youth voice forums which provide young people with the opportunity to represent their views on travel and provide valuable feedback for operators.
Through our partners, we signpost young people to apprenticeships and early careers opportunities within the sector, raising awareness of how to access entry level roles, salaries, and the potential for career progression.
Through engagement activities, our programmes encourage young people of all backgrounds to find their place in a career in transport, helping to improve diversity within the sector.
Working collaboratively, we empower employers in the sector to produce engaging programmes which help forge relationships with their customers of today and tomorrow, while giving their teams opportunities to develop their own skills. Activities can include enterprise challenges, careers panels, youth voice forums, and more to suit the needs of our partners and schools.
Engaging with young people from Key Stage 3 through to Key Stage 5 (11-18 years), we provide tailored careers information and skills building activities. Throughout their education, young people can experience:
