ADDING SOCIAL VALUE
Our programmes prioritise building long-term collaborations between businesses large and small, educationalists, community partners and the public sector to create lasting and long-term impact on young people, communities, and businesses.
Through our programmes, we bring the built environment to life for young people by engaging with them on redevelopment projects, office fit outs, regeneration projects, conferences and much more.
Our work in the built environment often includes maximising opportunities to include youth consultation work in built environment projects, adding and evidencing social value and giving young people the opportunity to contribute their ideas and perspectives while gaining valuable skills.
WHY GET INVOLVED
Our work with the built environment supports businesses to add social value in the communities they serve. By predominantly engaging with schools with higher than average pupil premium or students on free school meals, our work helps to create a more equal and inclusive society by reaching those young people who might not otherwise have opportunities to engage with the sector.
By equipping young people with more knowledge about different careers in the built environment we empower them to make informed choices about their future careers.
Our activities showcase the variety of different roles that support the built environment and help to raise awareness among young people, parents, and careers about the aspirational careers available in the built environment.
We’re helping to close the skills gap left by the pandemic by supporting young people to develop essential skills such as communication, interpersonal skills, teamwork and confidence that will be crucial for their future careers.
Through volunteering, our partners help to improve diversity within the sector by role modelling their professions, helping to increase awareness and aspirations among under-represented groups in the sector.
The built environment is all around us and our work brings to life all the opportunities to engage with the sector and how it changes our places and spaces for the better.
We design activities and events based on the social value objectives of our partners and the needs of the school or young people we engage. From workplace visits to careers panels to bespoke projects focused on a specific development or event, we can tailor activities to maximise social value and have a positive impact on young people, volunteers, and business.
At Key Stage 3 (11-13 years) our activities may include careers panels, sector insight days and inspirational speeches. At Key Stage 4 (14-15 years) our activities are more focused on specific job roles, skills and routes of entry through activities such as workplace visits, curriculum resources, speed networking, live briefs and podcasts. By Key Stage 5 (16-19 years) students interested in a specific area are invited to attend work experience and insight days. Throughout their education, young people can experience:
Many of our programmes work with young people over a number of years to improve their knowledge of the built environment, to harness and grow their passion, and to open their eyes to the many opportunities available in the sector. As the programme progresses, more targeted and specific experiences are included to develop foundational skills that are needed in the sector and set young people up for success in work experience placements, internships, and apprenticeships.
