FOCUS: Help Year 9 students develop their confidence and focus on their futures with help from local business role models.

Students from Swallow Hill Community College were invited to apply for a place on DWF's national 5 STAR Futures programme with an assembly hosted by Carrie Pearson, Associate in Insurance Fraud Division, to explain the aims of the programme.

15 students were selected to undertake six months of mentoring from DWF's business volunteers, attending monthly workshops with themes such as workplace behaviours, effective communication and resilience.

The series culminated in an awards presentation where students were able to tell their friends and family, as well as the school leadership team, how they have developed their skills and what they have personally got from the programme.

"This has been an inspiring and engaging experience for students from all walks of life and a real confidence builder from the outset. The journey the students have been on cannot be replicated in school as well as the influence of the mentors – they were fantastic role models."

"I recently finished the 5 STAR Futures programme and I'd like to thank you and your team for helping me and my school out. A few weeks ago, I had an interview to get into the 14+ Apprenticeship for college. I applied what you taught us and, luckily, I got into college. The 5 STAR Futures programme really does help, I am really glad that I chose to apply for it."
